REPUBLIC FLY ASH

Durable Concrete at Reduced Cost

Fly Ash is a partial replacement for Portland Cement used in producing concrete. It is a fine powder consisting mostly of spherical, glassy particles that are produced as a by-product in coal-fired power stations. With its pozzolanic properties, Fly Ash reacts with lime to create durable binders that holds concrete together. As a result, Fly Ash used in concrete significantly improves workability, strength and durability of hardened concrete. We would be glad to tell you more about the significant functional and economic benefits of Fly Ash.

FROM A TRUSTED NAME IN THE
CEMENT INDUSTRY

Founded in 1955, Republic Cement has been a partner in the Philippines’ transformation for over 60 years as a building materials company and a key contributor to nation building.  Republic Cement continues to supply quality cement to the local market, in order to meet the demand for high-quality construction materials.
Republic is backed by the global expertise of CRH, a leading building materials company with main headquarters in Dublin, Ireland and Aboitiz, a diversified Filipino business conglomerate recognized as one of the best managed organizations in the country and in Asia.

With access to the Aboitiz Power network of coal-fired power generation plants, Republic supplies the HIGHEST quality Fly Ash that is compliant with ASTM C618 standards. On request, Republic can provide Technical Services to support Concrete Trial Mix and training.

INNOVATING TO IMPROVE CONCRETE QUALITY AND COST EFFICIENCY

Using Fly Ash in portland cement concrete (PCC) has many benefits and improves concrete performance in both the fresh and hardened state.

In fresh concrete , Fly Ash reduces the mixing water requirement and improves the paste flow behavior. This results in improved workability, decreased water demand and reduced heat of hydration.

On hardened concrete, one of the primary benefits of fly ash is its reaction with available lime and alkali in concrete, producing additional cementitious compounds. This results to increased ultimate strength (allows concrete to gain strength over time), reduced permeability (for resistance to various forms of deterioration) and improved durability (improved resistance to ASR, sulfate attack and corrosion).

The use of Fly Ash is also cost effective. When added to concrete, the amount of Portland cement may be reduced by up to 30%. And since Fly Ash costs less, the impact on total cost of concrete  is also significantly reduced.

SETTING NEW STANDARDS FOR MAJOR PROJECTS AND CONTRACTORS

Given the significant quality improvement and cost efficiencies that can be realized, Fly Ash is now being used worldwide for a variety of concrete construction applications – from general construction, to roads, runways, dams, piers, massive mat placements, footings and similar structures. The Federal Highway Administration of the US Department of Transportation has made extensive studies on Fly Ash and has noted its benefits on Portland cement concrete.

In the Philippines, iconic infrastructural projects have used Fly Ash. Commercial projects  include various Malls nationwide and High-rise buildings in Makati, Ortigas and Bonifacio Global City. Industrial projects include Batangas International Port, South Luzon Ecotourism Highway, NLEX, Pagbilao Power Plant, San Roque Dam and LRT.

Fly Ash is now used extensively by MOST of the major Contractors in the country with project-based RMC’s.
